Pre-Launch Thoughts
It occurred to me today that when my son goes to college in 18 months, I won't be going with him. He's going to be at university all on his own, and I won't be getting a daily personal update. I know you think that's obvious, but, well, he's always lived with David and me. He's never lived anywhere else (only Chicago, San Francisco, Southern France, England, and Switzerland, that's all). I like him. He's a major part of our family. But he's leaving to go start his independent life. Yes, I have some time to get used to this idea (I suppose we start the "letting go" process at birth when they are no longer physically attached). But it's an interesting new feeling to be anticipating ahead of time, gradually getting comfortable with the concept. I'm really thankful for all the years we've had with Jason. He made us parents, and taught us all we knew about parenting for the first 3.5 years. He initiates us into each new stage of child/adolescent development. And what a great job he's done. I love you, Jason! Before he launches off to college, here are some of the serious things he's studying in high school:
In case you were wondering, that mountain is K2.
