Game Drive #1

Just walking around our camp, we mingle with the many nyala (striped
antelope), watch the cheeky, mischievous vervet monkeys who try to
steal food at any opportunity, and admire the impala and waterbuck
wandering along the mostly dry river valley in front of the huts.

For more excitement, we've been driving around in the wild South
African bush in a massive tank-like Toyota Landcruiser that has no
sides or top... completely open-air. Everyone has a "window seat"
(minus the windows). Apparently the fierce animals identify us as one
with the vehicle, as long as we don't stand up or get out...so they
completely ignore us. The vehicle doesn't smell good to eat or look
threatening. Pretty crazy stuff. Some things we've seen, as best I
understood our wonderful guide Patrick's accent:

1. Mon 11th October, 4:30pm-8pm
-bushbuck
-giraffe
-oxpeckers
-saddle-billed stork
-orange-breasted bush shrike
-hippo!
-turtles
-ibis
-grey duiker
- 2 lionesses in the dark! We were right next to them.
-the most amazing lightning show of all time
