There's More to the Mundane
Seeking God in the mundane, in the everyday
Mending - He repairs relationships and broken intentions (I close holes in sweatpant pockets)
"He restores my soul" Ps 23:3
Laundering - He cleans my heart (I wash duvet covers)
"Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin" Ps 51:2
Meal-planning - He nourishes my soul and my hopes (Sundried Tomato Chicken, anyone?)
"He nourished him with honey from the rock" Dt 32:13
Depositing checks - He has given me His Holy Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing my inheritance (thanks to Uncle Bob for belatedly received Christmas gifts to the kids)
"...put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come" 2 Cor 1:22
Paying bills - He paid my enormous, unpayable outstanding bill, once for all (love that mobile phone and the electricity, so useful)
"...who gave himself as a ransom for all men" 1 Tim 2:6
Tidying - He sweeps out the dirt and brings order to my life (I'm incessantly up and down the stairs to put things where they belong)
"For God is not a God of disorder but of peace." 1 Cor 14:33
Taking the trash out - He throws my sins into the best-sealed bag ever, never to rip open, never to be seen again (I use the special Swiss bags that cost extrra, so they'll take them away at all)
"My offenses will be sealed up in a bag; you will cover over my sin." Job 14:17
Chauffeuring - He takes me on great adventures, with the most amazing one yet to come at the end, ever more interesting and satisfying in Him (I'm off to school, rehearsals, youth group, friends' houses...)
"You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory." Ps 73:24
"I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." Jn 14:3
May each activity in our day (particularly that of homemakers, we who are often devalued by society), bring to light the great value in how God deals with us, and how we can bless others with His strength. May we all find Him daily in the mundane, the diapers, the bathing, the tucking in, the nursing. I think God has designed the world so that just about every physical activity has a spiritual parallel. It's all pointing to the relationship He wants with us.
