St. Petersburg, Russia, Part 3: The Church on the Spilled Blood
In 1881, Alexander II of Russia was mortally wounded here and so they built a church on top of the spot where he was hit by a grenade from a protester. That's our van in front, and me in my pink shirt next to it. We had a great tour guide, Natalya of TJ Travel, and driver, Viktor, for the two days we were in St. Petersburg.
Over the front door:
I liked the inside the best. Very impressive floor-to-ceiling art, on every imaginable surface. Very colorful. Believe it or not, these are not paintings, rather incredibly detailed mosaics.
Over the altar.
Jesus looks at you from the ceiling, visible from most any spot in the building.
This is the side of the building.
